Garissa schools benefit from STEM skills training

Officials from the Centre for Mathematics, Science, and Technology in Africa (CEMASTEA) are engaging junior secondary school (JSS) students and instructors in Garissa County to share their knowledge and practical abilities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Amina Sharbaidi, an official of CEMASTEA said the training focuses on STEM intending to empower the learners and teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills that will successfully impact 60 per cent of the learner's transition to the STEM pathway.

"For the attainment of the 60 per cent transition to STEM pathway, there is a need to sensitise both the learners and teachers in this subjects," she said.

Amina emphasised the need to encourage learners to embrace the best methodology that will help them gain the necessary knowledge and skills on the subjects.

She underscored the need to equip them with the necessary resources and activities to help them interact and further arouse their interest and curiosity to learn STEM subjects.

Musa Ahmed, a school teacher at Iftin Junior Secondary said the knowledge and skills gained from the training were necessary and would help them motivate learners towards the subjects.

" This was a long-awaited knowledge and skills empowerment on the newly introduced education system. We will utilise all we gained for the benefit of the JSS learners and promote the 60 per cent transition rate," he said.
